Initiated by ESCALAR, the Mix Film Festival of Laval (MFFL) aims to provide a platform for filmmakers and productions from the Latino-Arab communities, with the goal of promoting and showcasing their talent.

The MFFL is committed to giving visibility to the cinematic works of the Latino-Arab communities by providing them with a space to express themselves and be recognized. Through a varied program that includes film screenings, panel discussions, workshops, and meetings with industry professionals, the festival aims to strengthen intercultural dialogue and enrich the cinematic landscape.

By creating an inclusive space open to everyone, the MFFL aspires to become a gathering point for film enthusiasts, artists, and community members who wish to celebrate and support cultural and artistic diversity in Laval.

FAQ

Who are the members of the festival jury?

The members of the festival jury are seasoned experts from the film industry, selected for their expertise and in-depth knowledge of the field.

In addition to their experience, they also come from the Latino-Arab communities, bringing a valuable perspective to the evaluation of the works presented at the Mix Film Festival of Laval.

Which films will be selected ?

Films must have been completed in the past two years.

The films must be directed by artists of Latino-Arab origin or involve collaboration with Latino-Arab artists.

Our annual festival offers screenings of the projects with the director in attendance.

The festival reserves the right to use trailers, photos, images, and posters for promotional purposes in various film magazines, on social media, websites, etc.

Entry fees are non-refundable.

English or French subtitles are required for foreign-language films. Films in English or French do not require subtitles.

Short films must be less than 20 minutes long. Any projects exceeding 45 minutes must be submitted in the feature-length category.

 

The festival will communicate exclusively with the submitter of the film project.

Will there be workshops during the festival?

Yes, the festival will offer several workshops covering various aspects of filmmaking.

 

These workshops will be led by industry professionals and will provide learning and networking opportunities for participants.

Meet us

MFFL production team

Andrés Molina and Charbel El Melhem, co-founders of MIX FILM, bring together diverse backgrounds in film and healthcare. Molina, a Colombian-born filmmaker, studied at the University of Montreal, while El Melhem, originally from Lebanon, combines his nursing career with a passion for cinema and the arts. Together, they create impactful audiovisual projects.
